PPSN and IPN: identity numbers for directors

Why the CRO asks for a PPS number, and what a director without one needs to do.

The rule

Each director and the secretary gives a Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) on Form A1. Someone without a PPSN first applies to the CRO for an Identified Person Number (IPN) on Form VIF.

Without a PPSN

Most directors who live outside Ireland don’t have a PPSN. They apply for an IPN on Form VIF before the company’s application can be filed.

Plan for the time

The CRO does not guarantee a processing time. It takes longer if a director first needs an IPN. If any of your directors needs an IPN, start with them.

How we keep it safe

We store identity numbers encrypted and never print them in full on your documents.

Start with the name.

Check your company name against the CRO register now, then form your company when you’re ready.
